This month Innovative Pathways to Public Service (IPPS) convened to discuss and plan a Leadership Summit focused on:

  • Providing an overview on the state of the public sector workforce and identifying partners who can support in closing these workforce gaps.

  • Spring-boarding IPPS collective to act as an advisory body to the sector identifying pathway development and needs.

The Leadership Summit is taking place on Thursday, August 29th from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Library Galleria. If you are someone who works in the public sector and is looking to learn more about the workforce demands in this sector this will be the right event for you.

In addition to covering the Leadership Summit, Aaron Wilcher from The Center of Excellence delivered a report on the state of the public sector. The report clearly showed the role public sector plays within employment in the region as well as can focus us in where we need to be focusing our efforts in recruitment and talent development.

Key Takeaways from the report:

  • Close to 25% of all of Sacramento’s jobs are in the Public Sector (240,000 jobs)

  • The two highest industries employed by the sector are:

    • Educational Service

    • Public Administration

This report will serve as the guiding force for conversations at the summit as well as pathway development from K-12 to Community Colleges/CSUs/UCs to employers. If you are interested in engaging IPPS please visit our website HERE.
