SVP KIDS and TEENS had the opportunity to visit 2016 SVP Fast Pitch finalist Food Literacy Center to see their work in action. The Food Literacy Center believes in educating youth on trying new, healthy foods. Their summer program is an elective class for elementary school youth where they learn about various new vegetables and fruits and create healthy recipes to try out their creations.
SVP TEEN Lauren McLane organized the outing, communicating with the Food Literacy Center staff to set-up our tour. We heard from several of the Food Literacy Center Americorp members on what the program was all about and about their experience serving at the nonprofit. SVP KIDS and TEENS also had the opportunity to participate in one of their hands-on sessions, creating tasty treats out of peaches, strawberries, blueberries, almond butter, and wheat bread.
Thank you for The Food Literacy Center for allowing SVP KIDS and TEENS to learn more about your work!
