The Powerhouse Science Center, an SVP investee in 2010 and an SVP Fast Pitch winner in 2017, broke ground on their new location!
The new location is poised to become one of the top attractions along the Sacramento River. The 50,000 square foot campus will incorporate the 100-year-old Pacific Gas & Electric power plant located within the current plot while leaving 22,000 of those square feet for exhibition space and a state-of-the-art full-dome digital planetarium.
“The new Powerhouse will serve as a dynamic regional hub for STEM education with a mission to engage and inspire people of all ages to explore the wonders, possibilities, and responsibilities of science through dynamic exhibits and education programs.”
This physical vision and educational mission are coming to reality by a number of public-private partnerships. The project’s key supporters in closing the construction funding gap were the City of Sacramento, SMUD, Sacramento Regional Sanitation District, and Sacramento Sewer District.
On the 31st of May, Powerhouse Science Center and their supporters above brought their shovels and broke ground to launch this vision into reality. We look forward to sharing future updates about the Powerhouse Science Center.
“Powerhouse Science Center was enthused to have been selected as a finalist for SVP Fast Pitch in 2017, and we were overwhelmed when chosen as a winner! The process to hone and perfect our pitch with the guidance of our coaches and open sessions prepared us not only to make the pitch on stage but to continue using it with our sponsors and donors outside of the event. The media visibility from the event helped to promote our brand and our mission, a tangible and invaluable asset for our organization. Thank you to all who give their time and resources to SVP to help non-profits in our community thrive.”
