June 16th, 2017
During the 2016-2017 academic year, City Year partnered with Sacramento City Unified and St. HOPE Public School Districts in seven of their most high-need schools. 66 Americorps members served full time in grades 3rd through 9th helping to support more than 4,000 students during their year of service.
The 2017 graduation ceremony was an opportunity to celebrate the incredible achievements and growth of local corp members who stepped up to make our community and schools a better place to be! City Year Executive Director and Vice President Jeff Owen reminded the graduating corp that their commitment brings about the commitment of others. Corp member Karinne Caisse was honored with the local Bridge Builder Award – AND was honored as top five for this award nationally across all City Year sites! City Year Champion Julie Teel reflected on what corp member service meant to our local landscape with a powerful quote: “You have forever changed the lives of our students, our schools, and our communities.”
Thank you, City Year, for being a powerful force for good in our schools! You make a difference in so many lives and our community is stronger for it. Congratulations City Year!!!
